P-Square are known to be Nigerian R&B duo that consist of twin brothers whose real names are Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye. They are among the top richest musicians in Nigeria today and they have produced and released their albums through Square Records imprint.

Peter and Paul have signed a record deal with with Akon’s Konvict Muzik label in December 2011, they also signed a record distribution deal with Universal Music’s South African branch in May 2012. Unfortunately they had to break up and start pursuing their solo career on 25 September 2017, the break have spark controversy about the reason they decided to break up as fans and critics where all left amazed by their decisions.

Their breakup became known all over the country after Peter reportedly sent a termination letter to the group lawyer seeking separation. Earlier before the separation evidence of their separation surfaced online, they have already disbanded in 2016 which resulted over a disagreement about the role of their manager in their music career. They are no officially both pursuing their solo career and they have released singles which are currently enjoying massive airwaves, their songs are played on radio and television chart show.

Early Life

Peter and Paul were both born 18 November 1981 in Jos, Plateau State of Nigeria . Paul and Peter’s journey into singing started at a nice St. Murumba great secondary school in jos, a small Catholic school in Nigeria.

Peter and Paul both joined their high school music, literary and drama club in which where they began, drumming singing, dancing, and remixing songs by MC Hammer, Bobby Brown and even the great Michael Jackson, whom they love his dance. After some time Peter and Paul set up an cappella quartet called “MMMPP” that is M Clef a.k.a. Itemoh, Michael, Melvin, Peter and Paul.

They were influenced by their music idol Michael Jackson with his dance moves, and they eventually began learning break dancing, which led to the forming of another music group called Smooth Criminals in 1997, full of mainly dancers organised by the duo . Peter and Paul eventually re-branded the group after some time and then began calling the group “MMPP”.

The group gradually became popular as a result of their impressive and entertaining dance routine and they performed at school functions and other occasions when needed.

Peter and Paul thought it wise to attend a music school in 1999 with the main aim of developing their skills on the keyboard, drums, bass and rhythm guitar. In that same year, they applied to the University of Abuja to study Business Administration.

The members of Smooth Criminals started pursuing education which led to the disbanding of the group because each and every one of them left to various other universities, for their education. They later formed their own group, variously called “Double P”, “P&P”, and “Da Pees”, until they eventually settled on “P Square”, while still in school.

The formed group was managed by a seasoned concert promoter and the CEO of Adrot Nigeria Limited called Bayo Odusami aka Howie T. The duo started performing in shows and emerged the winner of “Grab Da Mic” competition in 2001. Their debut album tagged “Last Nite” was released under Timbuk2 music label which was sponsored by Benson & Hedges .

Peter and Paul in that same year were nominated as the “Most Promising African Group” in the Kora Awards only three months after the released of their evergreen Last Nite album. P-Square officially won the 2003 Amen Award for Best R&B Group, and a whole lot many other awards which have won over their careers.

From what have been gathered, Paul does not like talking about what happened to him an his brother. He shared that he did not appreciate the questions about his personal life and that of his brother, particularly about the relationship with his brother and their wives.

When paul was asked about whether P-Square will ever get back together, the musician said that it was not him who left the group so he is free, and he has waited long enough for his brother to return to the group. Alas, Peter did no such thing as returning, which means that there is probably no future for their reunion.
